They Call Him Senator Strickland!
by Jon Fleischman - Publisher (bio) (email)(print)
Congratulations to State Senator-Elect Tony Strickland. We just heard from FR friend Bob Haueter, who has been on the ground there. Tony has an 801 vote lead and all that remains to count are a couple hundred LA County ballots, which will only widen his lead. Outstanding news!

I still can't believe it ended up being this close of a contact. We have serious work to do.

Posted by Kevin D. Korenthal at November 26, 2008 4:34pmMr. Korenthal:
Posted by james sills at November 26, 2008 4:57pmYou are underestimating the Democrat nominee, Hannah Beth Jackson,
who is a tremendous candidate. This is her first loss ever.
Joe Justin, who guided the Strickland campaign over the finish line,
ALWAYS took her very seriously, and that's why we have a victory
to celebrate today.
Bravo to Joel Angeles, Joe Justin and Audra and Tony Strickland for
this terrific victory, which means the Dems gain NO senate seats!
Here are the final totals district-wide. They are a reminder of how
important GOTV is, and the value of every single American's vote.
The winning margin is 903 votes.
** Tony Strickland.......... 207,745.........(50.11%)
** Hanna B. Jackson........206,842.........(49.89%)
Congratulations to Tony. I still remember meeting him early on in my days with College Republicans, at some function or another at a CRP gathering. He's a good guy.
Posted by Adam J. Bernay at November 26, 2008 10:00pmThis was an extremely hard-fought, competitive race by both sides. During the final weeks of the campaign I was getting an average of about two mailers a day from each of the candidates. Some days I'd get three or four different mailers from one or the other. Both candidates had very effective pitches; obviously if either Tony or HBJ had slacked off the tiniest bit he or she would have been buried.
Posted by Daniel Wiener at November 26, 2008 10:58pmAt least it's finally over and both of them can get some sleep. My congratulations to Tony on his victory.
