Union Thugs, whipped up by Speaker, attack woman!

YESTERDAY MORNING…
If you were spending the day yesterday at the famed Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, you might wonder what was creating all of the clamor outside of your hotel window.  You part the curtains, and look down into adjacent Pershing Square…

What do you see?  There is a fired-up latino yelling to a crowd of seemingly-deranged and maniacal followers.  A cult?  A demonic ritual?  From the window, you can see that many are carrying signs, and you squint to try to read them.

That’s when you notice that many in the crowd have turned on a woman — they surround her, and the chanting turns into yelling.  Through the glass of the window, you can’t tell exactly what they are screaming, but the tone would fit screams of "Go to hell, Bitch!"

From your vantage point, high up, it looks like the crowd has descended on this poor woman — are they hitting her?

As you pull away from the window, your rapt attention to this chaos quickly diverted as you realize you are late for an appointment, you say to yourself — what has this world come to?  You put the matter out of your mind, with a nod of disapproval to the empty hotel room…

LATER THAT NIGHT…
You turn on your television, and what do you see on television???  Oh my!  It is the scene that you viewed from the hotel this morning — on the news!

It turns out that the scene in Pershing Square was a union rally against the Governor’s reform measures.  The latino figure whipping up the crowds was none other than Fabian Nunez, the Democrat Speaker of the State Assembly.

And it turns out the woman who was attacked was holding a sign in support of the Governor!  It turns out that even a woman in an orange security vest came over and rips up "Vote Yes" signs.  Amazing.

Right HERE is the news coverage.

I’m telling you, you can’t make this stuff up…

State GOP Communications Director Karen Hanretty had this to say:

"Nunez has a duty to issue a public apology to this woman on behalf the union bosses who control him.  That is, unless the Speaker believes that violence and thuggery are acceptable forms of public expression."

So true.

Oh yes – on a different note, I now know how you can define a slow news day – when multiple papers carry stories featuring recalled Governor Gray Davis’ opposing to the reform measures on the ballot.  Yawn.

PS:  Today, John Ellis from the Fresno Bee, a great columnist and good guy, pens a piece that posits that Congressman George Radanovich of Fresno may have a tough November battle against a self-funding Democrat.  Not only would Prop. 77 have to pass, but then these retired Judges drawing the lines would have to draw George’s district into downtown Fresno for this guy to have a shot…  You can read John’s column on the home page.
