CRP: Answering what questions?

Over the holidays, I received a couple calls from reporters about the CRP email dated Dec. 8 (received 12/15) entitled, “CRP Board of Directors Answers Victory 06 Questions”. I have taken the liberty to mesh the questions and answers to make some sense and get my point across. I know it is kind of lengthy, but I did spell check the post.

BTW, You cann see the entire email in Brandon’s post here.

I’ve posted the CRP Answers above each question (in red).

CRP: Samples of the phone scripts used were handed out for Board members to review. The scripts showed the Republican ticket was mentioned in all phone scripts, and in certain cases individual candidates were mentioned if the calls were going into their areas.  It was also noted there were “Monday Night for Tom” calls, “Tuesday Night for Tony”, etc.  None of the scripts were Governor only, as has been erroneously stated by some.

Q. Mike what did you think about the phone scripts being passed around at the board meeting.

A. I’m glad the board took an interest in the scripts a month after the election. There really wasn’t anything new in here.

Q. Did the CRP answer your question about the phone scripts?

A. My question was about the directing recourses. I know in one headquarters the script never mentioned the “Republican ticket” until later. And of course volunteers for Tom or Tony insisted on including their names. I got a call from one HQ, where the volunteer told me they made the switch in the scripts over the objection of the 06 personnel. Maybe we could have done better in the voter identification department in the final weeks if Bruce McPherson changed his name to “Republican ticket”.

CRP: Each an every statewide constitutional candidate appeared on each and every walk piece.

Q. Mike the CRP says that every statewide constitutional candidate appeared on every walk piece.

A. Everyone knew that. It was never an unkown although the word statewide leaves out BOE members and by constitutional they mean no federal candidates. Not even the contested congressional races like Pombo or Doolittle and of course not Dick Mountjoy. I guess the US Senate isn’t constitutional according to the CRP.

Q. The party says the McCain-Feingold wouldn’t let them put federal candidates on the pieces.

A. Not true. At least one county party did it, CRA did and every other state party except Connecticut did. I’m still not sure what question this answer was answering.

CRP: Samples of the CRP mail pieces were distributed.  Most had pictures of people representing typical Californians.  Some had pictures of Angelides and others of the Governor.  Again, it has been erroneously stated by some that the CRP mail had only the Governor’s picture or name in each piece, which is inaccurate.

Q. Who stated that the Governor was the only picture on the mail pieces?

A. I don’t know.

Q. What or who are they answering?

A. No idea. It was reassuring that the CRP put pictures of Angelides in the mail. I’m sure when the CRP displays the mail pieces at the convention we can rest assured that McPherson and McClintock got more pictures than Angelides.

Q. So the CRP didn’t answer your questions?

A. Nope. They need an outside audit of how and where resources were expended. BOE member Bill Leonard a state (not statewide) constitutional officer has called for one. I hope they do it. You can see the Leonard piece in FlashReport.

Have a Happy Holiday.
