Miller Removed from Assembly Ethics Committee

The Sac Bee is reporting that Assemblyman Jeff Miller has been removed from the Assembly Ethics Committee in connection with the Mike Duvall scandal. Apparently Miller was the face behind the pixilated image on Duvall’s infamous sex confession video. It’s entirely appropriate for Miller to be removed from the Ethics Committee, especially if he was aware the other party to Duvall’s affair was a lobbyist for an industry lobbying Duvall due to his membership on the Utilities & Commerce Committee.

This latest revelation compounds the problems for the Republican caucus in Sacramento . It’s bad enough that a member of the caucus was engaging in such public childish boasting about his sexual immorality with a lobbyist, but a fellow caucus member and an assemblyman who sits on the Ethics Committee turned a blind eye. This reinforces images of the capitol “good ole’ boy’s club” that voters find odious.

As uncomfortable as it may be, when it comes to unethical behavior, members have to be watchdogs amongst themselves—for the greater good of their party. Far more than Mike Duvall’s reputation has been damaged as a result of his cavalier bragging. This affects every member of the California GOP and its voters. We expect ethical leadership in our party. It’s a double-edged sword, but it looks like the unethical are being purged right now.
