Wishful Thinking From Speaker Perez

You are probably going to have to look pretty far to find a Republican in the Capitol (well, with the exception of Abel "I’ll vote for anything to get confirmed" Maldonado, who is going to sign up for the latest proposal from newly minted Assembly Speaker John Perez to have the legislature pass budgets by majority vote.

Don’t get me wrong, from a philosophical perspective, it makes sense.  Let the Democrats own the budget, and get out of this terrible system where Republicans are plied into voting for what is typically a terrible spending plan for California.

That said, the practical reality is that Republicans have very little leverage in the Capitol as it is, and the Democrats are doing such a, frankly, horrific job on the public policy front, that it would be almost criminal to give them even more unfettered and unchecked authority in the building.

In addition, I certainly didn’t hear Perez offering up anything concrete as a "trade off" as he asks his Republican colleagues to turn into Cheese-Eating Surrender Monkeys.  Oh, there are two Republican Committee Chairmen he has said he will appoint.  Gee, do those come with Republican majorities on those committees, or even Republican staff for the committees?  Yeah, I didn’t think so.

I think the best idea for Republican votes on the next budget, put the Assembly Public Safety Committee into Republican majority with Republican staff if that cant happen, Democrats need to live with the current system.

Sorry big boy, your dream of eliminating the 2/3 vote requirement will not be fulfilled.
Between redistricting and the paycheck protection initiative, the democrats hold on to power will become history.
We will stand against the democrats more aggressively. We will set the agenda and not accept the democrats agenda. We will get in their faces and tell them that they are wrong. I will be fighting for a 41 seat republican majority and there will be no defectors on my watch. Then on to the next goal of a 54 seat majority where the taxpayers will have commonsense leadership which they are entitled to as the number one stakeholder in California. The democrats will become depressed and not even want to come to work. That my friends will represent the new begining for California and our return to prosperity and liberty.
