Arnold and Same Sex Marriage - Get Me An Aspirin...
by Jon Fleischman - Publisher (bio) (email)(print)
- The Governor believes that the "people" spoke when they passed Proposition 22, passing a statute saying that marriage shall be defined as being between a man and a woman.
- I nosed around online, and I couldn't find any statements during the Governor's campaign indicated how he personally voted on Prop. 22.
- Proposition 22 is currently before the California Supreme Court -- some believe the Court will find that the statute in unconstitutional.
- Proponents of preservation of the traditional family are now qualifying a "new version" of Prop. 22 that itself a Constitutional Amendment, thus it would trump any notion that the language in it was unconstitutional.
- The Governor apparently feels that because the "people have spoken" in passing Prop. 22 that he is duty-bound to be its champion... Unless and until it is struck down.
- What does that mean that the Governor is doing?
- The Governor involved in the legal dispute before the California Supreme Court, on behalf of upholding Proposition 22.
- The Governor has also vetoed (twice now) legislation codifying same-sex marriage that appears to violate Proposition 22.
- While I couldn't tell you where the Governor stood on Prop. 22, I can tell you that as of Friday, he is publicly opposed to "upgrading" to a Constitutional Amendment.
- One can assume that the number of people who think that the first Prop. 22 was a good idea, and that the second is a bad idea, is probably pretty small.
- So we can probably figure that the Governor personally (as an individual) opposes efforts to define marriage as being only between a man and a woman.
- Though, as I mentioned, he clearly believes "as Governor" he should work to uphold Prop. 22.
- I'm pretty sure I would remember if the Governor had announced he had voted against Prop. 22 in the first place.
- Which really brings us back to the fact that his announcement that he would appose the Constitutional Amendment as pretty striking news.
- The Governor seems to strive to find ways to not be easily defined himself.
- Everyone has to have their own way of managing expectations.
- Mine for Arnold Schwarzenegger are pretty low these days.
- So while I rolled my eyes when I heard about his announcement on Friday, I quickly moved on with the rest of my day.

Country logic....you got a bad apple in the basket....RECALL
Posted by Robert Bosich at April 14, 2008 10:24amWhy would the governor repeatedly veto the homosexual marriage bill but oppose a constitutional amendment if he truly wants to protect marriage? I suspect that he really doesn't support traditional marriage, but knows that politically he can’t go against Prop 22. By the time he’s termed out, Schwarzenegger’s true beliefs will probably result in his reversing course and signing a homosexual marriage bill.
Posted by Meredith Turney at April 14, 2008 10:30amAlso, why did the governor make such a high-profile visit to the Log Cabin Republicans’ event when he shuns the conservatives at the CRA and rarely deigns to visit the mainstream CRP conventions?
Most politicians today have backbones on an eel. No conscience, no ability to "stay he course" and no real commitment to what is right, unless it is "politically correct." The Gov is a RINO and a liberal from th word GO! He has never been a conservative and he defintely does not believe in conservative values. SAD.
Posted by Frank Leupp at April 14, 2008 12:18pmMy Jon, low expectations for the Governor? Haven't you been beating the drum for Tom McClintock since he announced for the recall in 2003? And against the Governor since 2003, calling him a RINO and a liberal and other slurs from those who are so far right they are no longer on planet Earth?
