Shame on the Los Angeles Times
by Jon Fleischman - Publisher (bio) (email)(print)
Invariably, though, the editors, who were probably leaders in PETA or Greenpeace on their college campuses before turning to a life in journalism (following most of their campus-left activists), just scrunched up the fax and tossed it into the trash.
That is certainly one conclusion that you could come to as you turn the pages of the Los Angeles Times print edition this morning, as my mom and dad did -- they live in LA. My mom confirmed for me what I suspected, after spending 20 minutes scouring the LA Times website -- there is no coverage whatsoever of a taxpayer rally with reportedly 15,000 hopping mad, over taxed Los Angeles area residents gathering in Fullerton to protest the ever-growing tax burden on Californians.
The Orange County Register was there, and covered the event and the Los Angeles Media Group was there so there is coverage in many of their papers (San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Pasadena Star News, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, etcetra).
Even a wire service - City News Service was there -- so that begs the question about why the editor last night, after knowing the event was successful, didn't at least run the wire story in the paper. Probably too busy reading Obama's latest book to care about it... Or gazing at the life-sized posters of Rosie O'Donnell Oprah Winfrey that undoubtedly wallpaper the Times newsroom.
So...the ever-shrinking group of Los Angeles Times readers were left in the dark...
Very disappointing, and disheartening. This is just the latest example of how the main stream media tends to dismiss major events when they don't confirm to their left-of-center bias.
The good news is the despite being "shut out" by the Times, John and Ken will continue to be a catalyst for taxpayer action -- appropriately bringing together taxpayers who are fed up that here in the "Golden State", our taxes are higher than anywhere else in the country.
"Thumbs up" for John & Ken -- and a big "thumbs down" for the Los Angeles Times.

Jon's comment on the L.A.Times not
Posted by Celeste Greig at March 8, 2009 10:35amcovering the KFI's rally last Saturday is well taken and that's the reason why their readership/subscriptions has diminish so drastically, they have moved so far to the left that is really pathetic and shamefull, they cover only what they deem politically correctness with positive coverage for their leftist agenda, ie; gay rights?, anti-military protests, global warming lies, pro-abort, pro-illegal inmigration rallies, the Community Organizer walking on water, the upcoming arrival of the new puppy in April at the White House, tfying on Air Force One to Chicago to have a St. Valentine's dinner with the wife, or Arnold's green houses agenda to please his brother-in-law.......
and that's my comment!
Celeste Greig
It is completely unacceptable that the LA times did not mention one word about this sizable event even if it was in the OC. Had it been 50 liberal activists staging a protest in McArthur park, it probably would have made the front page. Pathetic! So pathetic that after 25 years of receiving the times, I'm cancelling my subscription on Monday morning with a phone call, a cancellation letter to the editor and another note in crayon to the reporter who was completely off base on the recent KFI comments. Hope he's enjoyed his time in the print media as it will likely end soon. Tax Revolt 2009. Join the revolution!
Posted by G Tallman at March 8, 2009 2:18pmYou have to understand that george shelton runs the news bureau over there. He is a pro tax commentator.
Posted by M. Barrett at March 8, 2009 5:03pmThis is only the start....Pravea Times will not change...It will become more critical and inward thinking. The best step is to have a massive rally outside the Los Angeles Times demanding editors show their Red Utopian faces to the masses....the next rally cannot be denied...Los Angeles Times.
Posted by Robert Bosich at March 8, 2009 5:36pmYou people are looking at the Times as a left wing paper instead of understanding they are simply incompetent. Last year there was a major scandal involving the City of Industry that the Times didn't cover until long after other newspapers in the Country picked up the story. They are just inept, nothing more.
Posted by Tom Kaptain at March 8, 2009 6:28pmThey may be inept, Tom, but they knew about this event. And, as someone mentioned above, every silly left-wing rally with 50 or 100 people gets wall-to-wall coverage. They are much more interested in covering the tax-eaters and the radicals than they are the taxpayers.
Posted by Don Stout at March 8, 2009 6:42pmWhat happened in Industry had been going on for many years, was well known to anyone who followed local level politics and crossed several election cycles. Worst of all, it happened in a city that was just a few miles from the LA Times office. On top of all of that, the Industry scandal not only had provably corrupt local elected officials, it also had possible involvement from organized crime. No offense towards John and Ken and their rally, but I would still argue that what the Times overlooked in Industry clearly shows their coverage to be incompetent to a level that I don't think they could affect a political debate if they were trying to influence it.
Posted by Tom Kaptain at March 9, 2009 6:48amThe LA Times recently announced that they weren't going to have a "local news" section any longer.
Posted by Gary L. Neely at March 9, 2009 6:57amHaven't you heard? Print newspapers are dead.
Come to think of it.... weren't you to blame for that? lol
LOL at the LA Times. The sooner they fold...the better.
