CRA Introduces Resolution To GOP Convention To Censure GOP Legislators That Vote To Put Tax Increase On June '11 Ballot

by Jon Fleischman - Publisher (bio) (email)(print)

3-12-2011 6:30 am
Last night I received an email from Celeste Greig, President of the California Republican Assembly (dubbed the conscience of the GOP) -- who informed me that on behalf of the CRA, she has introduced two resolutions for consideration at next weekend's California Republican Party Convention.

The first one, immediately below, is pretty self-expla

natory.  This is a resolution that would seek to condemn and censure GOP legislators that vote to put taxes on a June special election ballot.  Greig actually leaves blank spaces in this resolution so that, if necessary, the names can be added in...

                                                California Republican Party
                                  Resolution Denouncing "Republican Traitors
For Consideration at the Convention in Sacramento, March 18-20, 2011

                                      Submitted by Celeste Greig, President
                                          California Republican Assembly

Whereas, California is suffering from the predictable results of hugh taxes, oppressive fees,
burdensome assessments, and outrageous government excessive demands of every
sort and description, which have destroyed our state's business climate, caused
employers to flee the state, increased unemployment, eroded our tax based, raised
consumer prices, and seriously damaged our economy; and

Whereas, Governor Jerry Brown and the Democrats who control the California Legislature
are seeking higher taxes and they have even proposed to extend the largest tax
increases in California history, despite the fact that such an extension was soundly
rejected by the voters in May, 2009; and

Whereas, traitorous Republican Assembly members____________, ____________, ________
          and Senators______________, _________________, __________ (fill-in when known)
betrayed the principles and platform of the California Republican Party by voting to
place massive tax increases on the ballot, with full knowledge of the terrible
impact that their votes would have on California taxpayers, the state's economy,
and the future of the California Republican Party; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, that the California Republican Party censures these traitorous Republicans-in-Name
-Only, ask for their resignation from their positions within the California Republican
Party, pledges to endorse and support efforts to recall them from office, and directs the
California Republican Party staff, agents and officers to refuse to provide them with
funding or assistance in future elections.

Below is a second resolution, to praise Republican legislators, for standing together against putting taxes on the ballot...

                                               California Republican Party
                            Resolution Commending Tax-Fighting Legislators
For Consideration at the Convention in Sacramento, March 18-20, 2011

Submitted by Celeste Greig - President
                                            California Republican Assembly

Whereas, California is suffering from the predictable results of high taxes, oppressive
fees, burdensome assessments, and outrageous government excessive demands
of every sort and description, which have destroyed our state's business climate,
caused employers to flee the state, increased unemployment, eroded our tax base,
raised consumer prices, and seriously damaged our economy, and

Whereas, Governor Jerry Brown and the Democrats who control the California
Legislature are seeking higher taxes and they have even proposed to extend the
largest tax increases in California history, despite the fact that such an extension
was soundly rejected by the voters in May, 2009, and

Whereas, California's Republican legislators have been forced to endure a withering
barrage of vicious attacks from the Democrats and their special interest allies for
defending taxpayers and the productive sector of society, on whom our future
          depends; and

Whereas, no California Republican candidate has ever run for public office, under
the platform of raising taxes, specially when voters are being overburden with
tremendous gasoline prices. and yes "we're being assault like never before"; and

Whereas, our brave Republican legislators have refuse to place tax increases on the
ballot unless they were accompanied by a ballot measure to cut taxes by an equal
or greater amount; now, be it

Resolved, that the California Republican Party commends the brave, tax-fighting
Republicans legislators who refused to yield to pressure to raised taxes on the
working families of California and expand the size of California's bloated and
            wasteful government.

Will the CRA insert Ronald Reagan's name into their "Republican Trators" resolution?

oops, that should be "Traitors"

Is that the Ronald Reagan who supported Howard Jarvis' and Paul Gann's historic
Proposition 13 tax cut ?

And then took it nationwide in 1981 as President with the biggest U.S. Tax Cuts
in American history?

THAT Ronald Reagan?

Get ready for a pathetic advertising campaign to raise your taxes to the moon!!!!

The purple shirts are warming up in the bull pen....

I heard the other day that one report estimated the unaccounted for pension costs to be more than $500 Billion!!!

That's an incredibly scary number that a tax cut couldn't hope to address.

I also heard pension reform and a hard spending cap are the things, along with CEQA and Regulatory reforms, that those five Republican Senators are looking to trade for just agreeing to support putting the Gov's tax extentions on the ballot.

Not supporting the extensions.... Just agreeing to allow their measures on the ballot.

I doubt the Dems would ultimately agree to the trade, but if they did, the potential reward in that deal strikes me as certainly being worth the effort to find out.

Maybe CRA's resolution should say, "...unless they were accompanied by ballot measures to institute pension reform, a hard spending cap, CEQA and Regulatory reforms... OR....by a ballot measure to cut taxes by an equal or greater amount."

No Mr. Sills, I am talking about Governor Ronald Reagan who, in his first year as governor, caused the largest income tax increase in California history. And in constant dollars Ronald Reagan's is still the largest income tax increase in California history. Thus, Ronald Reagan's name should be placed first on the CRA list of "Republican Traitors" who raised your taxes if the CRA is really serious about condemning all Republican politicians who raise taxes.

BOb cool your jets or you will be called Foghorn Leghorn.

Foghorn Legham? Please explain. I detect that comment is an insult of some kind but I'm not sure.

Ask Jim Sills...he does not like my numerous and laborius posts on Flash Report......he called me Foghorn Leghorn....."it" is a cartoon character that is bombastic, maybe irrational and their are some lingering doubts... is Foghorn a chicken or a rooster...sounds like a social FO PAW violation or something.....Bing or Google it....

Excuse me Bob....going back to the woodshed until the Gang of Five flips/flops/rolls over for more Tax and Spend....

The 1967 state tax increase agreed to by Jess Unruh and Ronald Reagan
raised State revenue by ONE Billion dollara a year (source, Martin Smith
column for McClatchy News Service). Even allowing for inflation, that is
tip tray money by today's standards.

Having learned a tough lesson, and regretting the 1967 decision, President
Ronald Reagan then quarter-backed the 1981 Federal tax cuts which saved
Americans SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY Billion Dollars from 1981 to 1986
(source: The Bond Buyer magazine).

Some people will nitpick the ONE Billion, but the rest of us applaud Ronald
Reagan for learning from his California experience and then delivering the
biggest Federal Tax cut ever.

Before people get too upset with the CRA on this proposal ...although I agree that "traiterous" like statements about our lawmakers are wholly inappropriate...let us remember the role of the CRA and of the GOP lawmakers.

CRA is the conscience of the Republican party so their leadership actions are ideologically driven.

The GOP lawmaker's job is to govern so, using ideology and their governing judgement, they must try to solve the problem. In that context, allowing the people to vote on Governor Brown's tax extentions together with the GOP lawmaker's reforms makes sense.

I can see this because I have been there both as a long time CRA Assembly leader and as a former lawmaker.

To CRA'ers who don't like the taxpayer vote I say: Remember! The taxpayers' sword is mighty when California unemployment is at 12.4%.
