AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM SEVERAL MEMBERS OF THE CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN PARTY BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Several Officers of the California Republican Party take issue with a characterization that they, or the Republican Party, supports the Governor's decision to hire Democrat Susan Kennedy as his Chief of Staff. They have released this very measured note.

The CRP Board had an exceedingly frank and candid meeting on Thursday with the Governor to discuss his new Chief of Staff, and other issues related to his legislative agenda and the 2006 campaign. The meeting followed separate meetings the Governor held with Republican legislators earlier in the week on the same subject.
The Board did not endorse the Governor’s decision, and we remain concerned that the Chief of Staff’s role as it relates to the CRP and the ’06 Republican campaign be kept to a minimum. We intend to make certain the CRP’s strategic and tactical decisions as they relate to the ’06 campaign remain confidential, and we stated that in the clearest of terms.
During a lengthy interview following the meeting, Chairman Sundheim at one point made an unfortunate misstatement when he said, “We support his decision.” The Chairman recognizes the statement was inaccurate, and has apologized. Specifically, in a message to the Board yesterday he said, “Yesterday it was reported that I stated the CRP board supported the Kennedy decision. That was a mis-statement by me. What I meant to say was that the Board supported the Governor. I apologize for that mistake. Duf Sundheim.”
The reality is, not one member of the Board has stated any endorsement of this decision. Here is our official release regarding this meeting: [Click here]
The reason that we share this is to make clear that we share the justifiable concerns of many of the members.
The Chairman and party staff will be working hard to make sure that Republican Party strategies and tactics for victory in 2006, for all Republican candidates, remain confidential.
We were assured by the Governor that he will be promoting many of our Republican principles as we go into the 2006 election year -- especially a commitment to not raising taxes and we will be supportive of those efforts.
We all wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Sincerely,
Ron Nehring, Vice-Chairman
