Candidates for SD County Board of Ed Vacancy

UPDATE: See my analysis of the selection here.

Here is a first blush at those applying by last Friday’s deadline, as well as any web links I can find for them in a very cursory look (party registration in parentheses)….

Eric Kangas, a teacher of 37 years (unknown).

Vickie Butcher, a several-time candidate for El Cajon City Council and former member of the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board, appointed by Gray Davis (Democrat).

Pamela Choice…can’t find anything on her, although she may be a good Choice…do I see a campaign slogan here? (unknown).

John Johnson…way too many JJs on Google (unknown).

Marilyn Kistler…a doctor (Ph.D perhaps?) and a campaign chairperson for the Grossmont Community Concert Association’s 2002-03 season (unknown).

Maura Larkins, if it’s the same person, and I’m assuming it is…a teacher who has her own website devoted to exposing problems in the education system ("corrupt school board members & corrupt teachers union leaders"), part of which details her dismissal case at the Office of Administrative Hearings which started with her removal from the classroom due to allegations she was going to kill two teachers (unknown party registration, but interesting.)

Joel Levine (unknown).

Denise Price, an advertising and PR professional, as well as a former staffer to Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa, Assemblymember Mike Gotch and San Diego City Councilmember Valerie Stallings (I’m gonna assume Democrat).

Arkan Somo, a business consultant and one-time candidate for El Cajon City Council, he is a recognized figure in East County community affairs and a board member at Literacy First Charter School (Republican).

Rick Winet, the sales/marketing manager at KUSI-TV and president of the La Mesa-Spring Valley School Board (Republican).

Sharon Jones, also a member of the La Mesa-Spring Valley School Board and retired owner of Sharon Jones Design Group (Democrat).

Hey, if I’m wrong on any of this stuff, what do you want for free?  Just email me here.
