LA DA Steve Cooley speaks about 3 strikes and more.

Steve Cooley is one gutsy guy. This Los Angeles DA took on "Tookie" Williams. (See my previous post here.) And today he took on the San Gabriel Valley Lincoln Club with some of his thoughts about justice.

Several items to report on: He spoke about the progress in implementing Prop. 69 and the DNA testing that require. Cooley was excited about the prospect of solving cold and hot cases with the database being formed.

Cooley also talked about EscapingJustice.com his site that has pressured Mexico and the US to do more about killers hiding in Mexico.

Cooley also said that despite changes in Workman’s Compensation law it is impossible to “prosecute” a solution to Workman’s Comp Fraud. Thank you legislature.

Cooley is currently trying to change the statewide three strikes law to conform to how his office applies it. He contends that if the abuses aren’t taken out of it we may lose it. He thinks it is unfair and wants to be able to limit its use against non-violent offenders like check forgers.

He does make a compelling argument and is clearly in a better position to make that case than the Prop. 66 crowd that wanted everyone to free. Cooley even has Police chiefs in LA County on board.

As a side note he says the Fed case concerning the Anthony Pellicano wiretaps will be full of celebrities, sex, power and rock and roll. Do we look forward to that?
