Tom McClintock’s Luncheon Remarks

A sold out crowd of about 750 people are here for lunch with Senator Tom McClintock, who is running unopposed for the Republican nomination for Lieutenant Governor. Central to his speech was a passionate articulation of those policy accomplishments of Arnold Schwarzenegger that are important to Republicans and taxpayers.

After a humorous introduction from Congressman Darrell Issa, who said that he (Issa) was funnier, but that McClintock was smarter… McClintock came to the podium with a standing ovation and lengthy cheers as “California, Here We Come” blared on the soundsystem, remeniscint of Reagan’s glory days!

McClintock started with a reminder that just two years ago, in the high-turnout special election, two out of every three votes were cast for Republican candidates.

His thoughts on the Democrats:“Steve Westly is the emptiest suit I has ever met. “

“Phil Angelides is a self-announted elitest who is so good at runnuing his own life he deserves to run everyone else’s.”

On principles:“When we have stood by our principles we have won. In the end, if we don’t stand by our principles, what have won.

Fiscal conservatism, strong stand for appointing conservative judges.

Admonished the delegates to remember Reagan’s motto that someone who agrees with you 80% of the time is your 80% friend, not your 20% enemy.

I don’t agree with the Governor on everything but I still support him.

Republicans are united on the same issues that elected a Republican in the special election

Reminded folks about some achievements of the Governor:-Repealed the car tax. -Vetoed licenses for illegals. -Reformed workers comp. -Vetoed same-sex marriage. -Had the backbone to take on the special interests. -Kept his pledge to not raise taxes.

McClintock talked about the great place that California was back three decades ago, and how the Democrats have taken us down a horrible path, and now Republicans are in a position to restore California to its wonderful potential.

McClintock said that this election is about freedom for the people of California (among these freedoms, he articulated the need for reform of state-sponsored private property seizure).

Faith in our principles:“Let us have faith that our principles are sound and that if we are true to those principles, we will succeed!”

After the speech, the crowd lept to an arousing ovation! McClintock is clearly a darling of this convention, delivering a speech with the characterstic clear articulation of principle for which he was lauded during his campaign for Governor in the special election!
