Gift-wrapped Pizza?

[UPDATED – SEE THE E-MAIL FROM LANCASTER’S CAMPAIGN MANGER SENT TO ADAMS ON THE FRIDAY BEFORE THE ELECTION – IT’S AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST.]

Apparently, years ago, Anthony Adams delivered pizza for a living. Whom among us hasn’t worked in a similar job when young? I actually remember my stint at Straw Hat Pizza, my memories of which are mostly washing dishes, and making free pizza to take home after work.

Adams just won the GOP nomination for the State Assembly where Dennis Mountjoy is retiring, a victim of California’s three term limit. In the spirited primary, another significant candidate in the race was Chris Lancaster, the son of former moderate GOP legislator Bill Lancaster.

Part of this story has to do with the fact that allegedly, many years ago, some senior citizen wrote a very strongly worded letter to a newspaper taking then-City Councilman Chris Lancaster to task for voting for a local tax increase. Apparently Lancaster sued the woman for her public criticism, and he served her with court documents by wrapping them in Christmas paper and delivering it to her home.

Why is this relevant? Read on.

In the final days of this slugfest for the 59th, Lancaster drops a hit piece on Adams, attacking him on a number of fronts, including his having delivered pizza for a living.

Also, in an interesting display of immaturity, I’m told that Lancaster’s campaign manager sent a snotty email to Adams just two days out from the election, jeering that Adams was going to lose, and making a slam on him for his pizza delivering days (something like ‘there will still be a pizza delivery job for you when you lose’).

Well, Anthony Adams got the last laugh on two fronts. First and foremost – he won. Adams will be sworn into the Assembly in December. Secondly, the Adams Team, victory assured, had pizzas, wrapped in holiday paper (nice touch!) delivered to Lancaster and his manager!

There are always silly stories like this in the world of politics. This one was the most recent… LOL

That’s a hilarious story. Thanks for sharing it. I would like to put in a good word for one of the Victor Valley candidates, Barry Hartz, who ran a good conservative campaign and is an all-around nice guy and community activist, from what I hear.

As someone who has delivered pizza for a living, and now repairs cell phones, I take a great deal of satisfaction in Anthony’s victory. That and he’s a great guy!!!

I once washed dishes in a pizza place. For all of us — like Anthony Adams — who used the free enterprise system to work our way to better jobs (is state assembly better than pizza delivery, however?), Jon, please post the email of this clown, Jim Freeman, so we can identify for him the REAL loser.
