CRP Chairman’s Post-Convention Pep-Talk

The California Republican Party Chairman, Duf Sundheim, has his own blog, and here is his official post-convention ‘pep-talk’ to the troops:

Shortly after the Recall, I was asked whether the Recall marked a turning point in California politics. I said it was either a turning point or an aberration, depending upon where we went from here.

By reelecting Governor Schwarzenegger and winning down ballot races in 2006, we will demonstrate that the Recall election of 2003 was The turning point.

That is why it is so important to win this Fall.

The choice could not be clearer, the decision more important. Phil Angelides and the rest of his recycled Democrat ticket would only serve to return the state to a time:

· When driver’s licenses were given to illegals;
· When the car tax was triple what it is today; and
· When the state was in financial crisis.

That is why the over-arching theme at the Republican Convention this weekend was not any one particular issue, as important as that issue may be; or the career of any one individual; but rather TO WIN THIS FALL.

· Only if we win will we have a chance to implement the policies that are so important
to us and the future of this state.
· If we win, it will have a significant impact on our ability to win elections in California the
future.
· If we win this year, California will become a battleground state for the first time since 1988.

This year we are guaranteed to make some sort of history. But the question is, will it be a history anyone remembers? Because of the leadership of Governor Schwarzenegger, we will have more volunteers than any Republican campaign in the U.S. in 2006 and more volunteers than any campaign in the history of the California Republican Party. We also will have more financial resources, more call centers, more data – more everything. But if we do not win, those historic achievements will not only be forgotten, they will be meaningless.

I remember before my first college game my coach, George Seifert, said, “Duf, you have worked so hard to get to this point – so you can go out there today and work that much harder.” That is where we are at today. We have worked very hard to get to this point, but we need to work even harder between now and Election Day to win.

What an historic opportunity. I cannot imagine anywhere I would rather be.
