McClintock Leading The Way – With Public Positions On All Ballot Measures

One of the reasons why I think that everyone reading the FR should help Tom McClintock in his campaign for Liuetenant Governor of California is McClintock’s strong, decisive leadership on policy issues both in the legislature, and before Californians on the ballot.

Back in early August, Senator McClintock took positions on every matter on the November election and listed all of his positions (along with explanations for them) on his campaign website.

I took the opportunity to take a look at the website of Tom McClintock’s opponent, John Garamendi, to see where he stands on the statewide ballot measures — and there was nothing there.  You can’t even tell from his site if he has a position on Proposition 83, the Jessica’s Law measure!

But Garamendi is in good company as I meandered through the websites of our Republican candidates for statewide office.  Apparently from my quick review, Tom McClintock is the only major party candidate running who is sharing positions on all of the measures on the November ballot — and in fact has placed a very prominent link on the home page of his website to his ballot measure positions so his supporters can get his input before voting.

I don’t agree with every one of McClintock’s positions (well, I agree with all but one — he is voting for Proposition 1E, the Levee Bonds, and I am voting no) — but I most admire that he taken public positions on all of the measures.  I will list them below — and challenge other candidates to send me their positions so I can post them as well.  I’d especially like to hear from John Garamendi on Jessica’s Law…

How will Tom McClintock be voting on the ballot measures?

  • Prop. 1A Transportation Funding Protection:  YES!
  • Prop. 1B Transportation Bond:  NO!
  • Prop. 1C Housing Bond:  NO!
  • Prop. 1D Education Bond:  NO!
  • Prop. 1E Levee Bond:  YES!
  • Prop. 83 Jessica’s Law:  YES!
  • Prop. 84 Park Bond:  NO!
  • Prop. 85 Parental Notification: YES!
  • Prop. 86 Cigarette Tax:  NO!
  • Prop. 87 Oil Tax:  NO!
  • Prop. 88 Parcel Tax:  NO!
  • Prop. 89 Taxpayer Funding of Campaigns:  NO!
  • Prop. 90 Protect Our Homes:  YES!
