Angelides still doesn’t get it… Blind to the end.

Down to his last piece of communications to supports, Phil Angelides is still deluding himself.  In a final e-mail to supporters (h/t CA Observer), Angelides is still trying to tie Arnold Schwarzenegger to President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

How exactly do you connect THOSE dots, Mr. "Four more years of Arnold Schwarzenegger means four more years of Bush/Cheney/Schwarzenegger policies in California" Angelides?

Literally the only thing that I can think of is that, to the end, Phil Angelides is only concerned about one thing – raising taxes.  If that is the case, then I guess he is right — Bush and Schwarzenegger both share a commitment to opposing tax increases.

But that is about it.  Ideologically, stylistically, or geographically, there is very little similarity between the two — except that they are both Republicans.

But then, all Democrats are not alike either.  There are plenty of Democrats who don’t want to increase taxes on Californians to the tune of $18 billion (or more).  So this is what we say to Phil Angelides today:

Phil, tonight when you are drowning your sorrows with Bob Mulholland and Steve Maviglio, you can look back on the campaign and you will realize that while the Schwarzenegger campaign was able to define you as the Tax Man, they were only using your own words, your own record and your own proposals against you.
Don’t take it personally.  Tonight isn’t a repudiation of you — but rather a repudiation of the tax increases you represent.  In about a week, no one will remember who it was that ran against Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Actually, Jon, a number of media outlets called the Schwarzenegger campaign on their fabricated numbers about what Phil called for.

You have a good time drowning your sorrows tonight with ex-Speaker Hastert and a President at 34% approval.

The President’s 34% approval rating reflects the fact that many conservatives, including this one, disapprove of the job he is doing. Domestic spending has gone up substantially under his watch, and while Republicans in the Senate and House bear responsibility, I didn’t read about any vetos.

Anyways, Steve, I respect your ability and your loyalty. And having a boss lose by 20 points still isn’t as bad as having one recalled — so you are progressing in the right direction. :-)

True, but at least my bosses know which party they on and helped others on the ticket!
