Today’s Commentary: Pay Raises, Ward Connerly, And Cal-Trans As Your Landlord?

Tomorrow we will see more changes taking place in the Blog Roll here at the FlashReport.  One of FR’s original blogging team will be retiring, to be replaced by another outstanding local correspondent…and we will be introducing another member of the California State Legislature who will join Assemblyman Doug LaMalfa in bringing us insights from under the Capitol Dome.

NO PAY RAISE FOR ME — OK, MAYBE A PAY RAISE FOR ME
Unlike the last few days, where reading on California politics has been quite anemic, there is a lot of interesting reading to take in on FR’s main page.  "Above the fold" we have an expose from the Sacramento Bee where they reveal that of the large group of State Legislators that publicly declined a $12,000 pay raise, seven of them later decided to go ahead and take the salary bump.  It’s my opinion that if you are going to define the job of a State Legislator as full-time, the raise was probably appropriate.  The newsworthyness comes from the fact that in many instances, these legislators didn’t just turn away the raise, but gave quotes to the newspaper or told supporters that they thought the raise was a bad thing.  Not all said that, but some. Some legislators said that they would not take the raise unless and until they were renominated for office.  Anyways, you can see the seven legislators who flipped on whether to take the raise over on the main page.
