RivCo’s Most Wanted

Over the years, I’ve always tried to take advantage of, and use, the best technology available not only to win elections but to serve my constituents.

I know websites are passe now – everybody’s got one (I have five different ones I run), but my staff and I worked very hard on updating my official state site recently and want to use this space to show it off and detail what we’ve done.

Sure we have all the usual stuff – you can read my bio, see my latest news releases, track legislation and find out all about my great district (SD 37).  But we went further.  We wanted to turn the website into a tool people can use for information and, frankly, to protect themselves.

In this post, I want to highlight a feature we call RivCo’s Most Wanted.

For years and years and years (eight actually) I fought to get the Megan’s Law database of sexual predators online and available to all.  You wouldn’t believe the struggle we had doing it – but that’s for another looong post.

Now, it’s great that the information is available and that these predators have to register with local law enforcement.  It certainly is comforting to me and my family.

But the bad news here is that an amazing amount of these sex offenders don’t register their addresses with law enforcement and go back into the shadows.

Enter RivCo’s Most Wanted.

We wrote software that scans the Riverside County database of sexual predators and pulls out those that have failed to register.  Those in violation of the law.  Those that should be going back to prison.

When you go to the page you will see the pictures of six predators in violation.  Refresh the page and there are six more – and on and on.  If you click on their picture, you’ll get a description of their crimes, identifying marks and their last known address.  You can also click and get a list of all the sex offenders in Riverside County.

I created this feature because I want a bright light on these sexual predators.  If they fail to register – as the law requires – they should be headed right back to prison.

I wanted my constituents to have the information about who is out of compliance so they can protect their families.

We got a couple of other great features on the new site – and I’ll feature those in other posts.
