Our Inaugural Podcast – An Interview With Fred Thompson

Welcome to the first-ever FlashReport Podcast — a one-on-one interview with Presidential candidate Fred Thompson!

Our plan was to kick-off our new podscasting feature after the first of the year with a new weekly podcast, where we would bring you interviews with many of the opinion leaders here in California that impact the politics and policy for the Golden State — and we still plan on doing that.

But when I had an opportunity to chat over the phone with GOP Presidential candidate Fred Thompson, I asked if we could go ahead and record the call to put up on the site, I quickly called my developers and said, "I know this is short notice, but can we scramble to get our first podcast up tomorrow??"

Fortunately they were able to pull it off, and below you can access my first interview — with Senator Thompson. It’s a thirteen and a half minute interview, and we touch on a number of topics including his naming of Tom McClintock as his California campaign, his views on health care, term limits, and more!

I apologize for some of the quality of the audio — in order to make this interview happen, we were both on cellular phones which makes for some interference. In the future, we’ll hopefully be doing stuff in person, or via land-line.

As we move forward, we’ll be standing up a podcast library for the site, to make it easy to find and listen to our growing collection of recordings, as well as making a subscription to the FlashReport Podcast on California Politics available over on iTunes.

Once you’ve listened to some or all of this interview, I would love to get your feedback. How can we make this feature better? Who are some of the guests that you would like us to track down? E-mail me here.

I will close with a h/t to our own former State Capitol FlashReport Correspondent, Karen Hanretty, who is on the Communications Team for Thompson for helping to make this happen.

So, without any further pause, my interview with Fred Thompson, candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States. We spoke yesterday morning at about 10 a.m…
