Monday Morning Grab-Bag

GOVERNOR’S GLOBAL WARMING POSITION IS BEST FOR A DEMOCRAT DEBATE
It was reported over the weekend in the Los Angeles Times that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is trying to put together a debate amongst the Republican candidates for the Presidency, focused on the issue of global warming.  Such a debate might be instructive to the Governor because what he will find is that the debate will not be over how to reduce mankind’s emissions of carbon, but rather the injection of a lot of sound science that profers that the relationship between the earth’s temperature and the actions of man are dubious at best.

COERCIVE MORTGAGE DEAL BAD FOR AMERICA
Today’s San Diego Union-Trubine lead editorial hits the nail on the head with regards to President Bush’s poor leadership in working to manipulate the marketplace with so-called "voluntary" concessions from the mortgage finance industry.  Having Treasury Secretary Paulson negotiate a "voluntary" agreement makes me thing of some mobster with a baseball bat calling his weekly payments from the scared store owner "voluntary" because the mobster — never had to swing the bat!

GOV HANGS WITH BIG HILLARY DONOR
I was reading through a press release sent out by the Governor touting the formation of a new foundation to help those facing foreclosure in Oakland to get through their tough times.  Voluntary charity is to be applauded, for sure.  That said, when I saw that the Governor was at this press conference with a venture capital mogul, Tom Steyer, alarm bells went off.  I had seen that name before!  So I did a little bit of Google searching.  Yeah, this guy is a chief fundraiser for Hillary Clinton, and also has been giving/raising big bucks to fight off the electoral college reform measure for California, CalCounts.  I wish Steyer would give all of his money to charitable causes, instead of working to elect left wingers like Hillary, would would forcably take money from one American so that goverment can "give" it to another.  Ironically, standing behind the Governor was Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums, an avowed socialist, who probably thinks the notion of home ownership is evil.

WE’RE WITH THE GOVERNMENT, AND WE’RE HERE TO HELP… DONALD TRUMP!
From the tales of "you have to read it to believe it," the lame-duck Mayor of Fresno, Alan Autry, actually wants the Fresno City Council to use the powers of eminent domain to perform a "taking" of people’s private property to make way for — a Donald Trump development.  It’s probably worth noting that because a key piece of property is no longer owner-occupied, the faux-fix League of Cities ballot measure would do nothing to save this property owner, as opposed to the Jarvis-coalition led measure which would actually preserve property rights.  Very disappointing, Bubba.

EGG NOG HANGOVER
Lastly, yesterday I attended the famous Egg Nog Holiday Party of former State GOP Chairman Mike Schroeder, and his wife, Orange County DA Public Relations Guru Susan Schroeder.  Lots of politicos were on hand, and much was discussed by way of insider political mechanations.  Unfortunately, Mike spent too many hours perfecting his spike egg nog, and all that most participants can recollect about the party the next morning, through their hangovers — sushi, Mrs. Field’s cookies, some great wine, and the world’s largest and most decorated Christmas Tree in the living room..

That’s all for now…
