Perata-Gate Continues: Denham Recall Organizer to Signature Gatherers – “Don’t tell them you are from Michigan…”

Senate President Don Perata’s embarrassment and legal exposure continues to grow as "his" recall effort against State Senator Jeff Denham continues to spiral to new depths of unethical, inappropriate and probably illegal activity.

Last week we brought you exclusive audio recordings of recall-petition circulators admitting that they were from out of the district, which is against California state law.  You can check that out here.

Today, in an even more starting and brazen display of stupidity, we have obtained an audio recording that we’re told is the answering machine of one of the senior managers of the signature gathering effort.

In what can only be from the files of "You have to HEAR it to believe it" — the voicemail (on a non-California number I might add) says:

“I have a message for the folks working on the Denham Recall – you are being recorded.  Everything you say that is not accurate and not true is being recorded.  So please, please stick with the accepted pitches.  Do not tell people that you are from Michigan…”

But wait, don’t take my word for it.  You can actually listen to the message right here.

After the revelation that circulators were from out of the district, the Friends of Jeff Denham earlier this week filed an official complaint.  It seems that their complaint will carry only that much more weight with this audio recording…

Of course Don Perata is no stranger to unethical behavior, and so perhaps he can just have the criminal defense attorneys he undoubtedly already has on hand go ahead and defend this seemingly-illegal behavior as well…

It really makes you want to vote yes on Proposition 93, and give Perata four more years in office, right?  NOT.

Oh yes, let’s remember what Denham’s "crime" was, that garnered him a potential recall election…  Oh yes.  Along with his Senate Republican colleagues, Denham held out for spending cuts in the state budget.  With today’s revelations that the state’s deficit is now approaching $15 billion, it looks like it is Perata, not Denham, who should be drummed out of office.   Denham showed leadership, which is exactly what his constituents expect from him!
