A Haiku for Political Mail Writers

The writing done now
mail leaps shrieking like the bat
hungry from a cave

    Dude, that’s deep…

Yeah yeah… Has Francis got a shot?

  3. sean.hoffman@gmail.com Says:

    That’s not a haiku
    Your syllable count is off
    Stick to writing mail

  4. gab200176@yahoo.com Says:

C’mon Duane, A haiku is five syllables, then seven, then five. It must be the fog of working 24/7 the last few weeks & months.

  5. duane@coronadocommunications.com Says:

    What are you talking about?

    “Never There”

    Magic computer
like Stalin to his old friends
    airbrushing them away

  6. sean.hoffman@gmail.com Says:

    Still six syllables
    With “airbrushing them away”
    Edit your last line

I’ve done a bit of reading. Your version of the Haiku is very stiff – more to help students understand than representative of the poetry itself.

The most famous Haiku in Japan is:

    old pond
    a frog jumps
    the sound of water
    –Basho

    An American Haiku

    Snow in my shoe
    Abandoned
    Sparrow’s nest
    –Jack Kerouac

A more modern famous one from two years ago:

    so suddenly winter
    baby teeth at the bottom
    of the button jar
    –Carolyn Hall

Stop trying to contain my spirit with your walls, man…

    Skinny consultant
    Sage of poetic wisdom
    Don’t quit your day job

  9. jon@flashreport.org Says:

DID YOU EVER HEAR THE TALE?
OF DAUNE THE CONSULTANT TALL AND PALE?
A HAIKU HE ATTEMPTED TO CREATE…
TO FIND THAT AT POETRY HE AIN’T THAT GREAT!
PERHAPS HE SHOULD JUST WRITE MAIL…

There once was a consultant from Nantucket….

    Or was it

There once was a consultant from Venus……
