CRP Chairman Ron Nehring Issues Statement On Sen. Arlen Specter’s Decision To Join The Democratic Party SACRAMENTO – California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring today issued the following statement in response to Sen. Arlen Specter’s decision to join the Democratic Party:

"Arlen Specter’s decision to join the Democratic Party has absolutely nothing to do with principles. This was a poll-driven decision based purely on selfish interests. Specter Should Resign

Arlen Specter, elected as a Republican Senator in Pennsylvania, today switched his party registration to Democrat.

I can't say I am shocked, given his embrace of President Obama's hard-left policies.

That said, Specter should follow the principled lead of Phill Gramm. Before being elected to the Senate, Gramm (of Texas) was a Congressman. Elected as a Democrat to the House, he decided to become a Republican, inspired by Ronald Reagan. But he felt that to switch mid-term was unfair to voters. So he resigned his seat, then re-registered Republican, and then ran and was -re-elected in the subsequent special election…… Read More
