Michael Steele: Let’s Get California Working Again

We are pleased to share this piece from RNC Chairman Michael Steele…

Yesterday, I was in San Francisco where I delivered remarks to the Chamber of Commerce regarding the economy.  As you know the economic situation in California is quite grim. The unemployment rate is 12.4 percent and in areas like the Central Valley it’s near 20 percent.

The so-called $862 billion stimulus that Democrats, including Senator Barbara Boxer, supported was supposed to ‘create or save’ 400,000 jobs and alleviate the state’s unemployment woes.

Unfortunately, after watching money disappear to non-existent congressional districts like the 00 and 99th, it became quite apparent that the junior senator let the people of California down again, and this massive spending bill did nothing to rein in the unemployment rate.

Rather than looking back, it’s time to look ahead and together we need to elect candidates who are focused on getting the economy working again.

At the top of the ticket are Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina, two accomplished businesswomen who have what it takes to turn around California.

Meg has a record of creating jobs and leading people toward success. She is a focused candidate who will create jobs, cut government spending and will be an excellent Governor for the State of California.

Then in Washington, Carly will serve as a fresh voice in the U.S. Senate when she replaces Barbara Boxer, whose partisan pandering and extreme tax and spend economic policies are completely out-of-step with voters in her state.

Meg and Carly are just two examples of some wonderful Republican candidates we have in California.  All across California, from Eureka down to San Diego, there are going to be numerous hotly contested races and I am confident that if we roll up our sleeves and work hard we can finally elect people who will work to create jobs and get the great state of California moving again.
