Host Of GOP Legislators Support Proposition 22

With the State GOP Convention quickly approaching, the following letter was sent out to delegates from the Yes on 22 campaign.  Proposition 22 would block the state legislature from taking funds traditionally used to fund local government services to use for other purposes…

Republican Legislators Support Prop 22

Dear California Republican Party Member:

We are writing to urge your strong support for Proposition 22 at the California Republican Party convention this month. Prop. 22 would stop the fiscally irresponsible practice of state legislative raids of local government funds. And Prop. 22 would prevent the State from taking gas taxes that voters have dedicated to transportation improvements.

Prop. 22 is a fiscally conservative approach to governance. It will protect local taxpayer dollars by ensuring that they remain dedicated to local services. Government that is closer to the people is more accountable to the people. The constant redirecting of local taxpayer dollars to the state government erodes local control and accountability.

Prop. 22 also protects the most vital of services, including law enforcement, emergency 911 response, and fire protection.

Those opposed to Prop. 22 are primarily big government employee unions – such as the California Teachers Association and the California Nurses Association – that want to be able to continue to raid local taxpayer dollars to grow state government spending. Their arguments against redevelopment are a red herring. This measure does not dedicate one new dime to redevelopment – or any other local government agency. It simply stops the State from taking existing local taxpayer dollars.

Prop. 22 is supported by the California Taxpayer Protection Committee, the California Chamber of Commerce, California Business Properties Association, League of California Cities, California Police Chiefs Association, California Fire Chiefs Association, and more than 300 cities.

We urge you to join us in supporting Prop. 22 at the CRP convention.

Sincerely,

Hmmm, I think we “prevented” the State from doing this by passing a couple of previous propositions. But, the State always finds a way…

The ways things are going…just mail the salary and per diem checks to the legislators at their home addresses…no need for them to show up and try and do anything…propositions are slowly but surely making legislators more useless than they are at present!
