Sunday San Diego: SD Consultants Produce #1 Campaign Mailer, More on AD 74, Oscar Time for Arnold

The Taxman Cometh: Number One Mailer in Country out of San Diego… Kudos to lead consultant John Wainio and supporting consultants Jim Sills and Tish Sjoberg for recently nailing down First Place in the Nation with a coveted Reed Award from Campaigns and Election magazine in the "Direct Mail, Republican Advocacy" category.  Their winning mailer was produced to benefit last year’s successful Re-Elect County Supervisor Bill Horn effort.  The piece takes on Horn Challenger Steve Gronke for his record as a Vista City Councilman. (See a larger version here.)

Sills writes about the mail piece, "The Taxman," on San Diego Rostra:

"Unnamed, but clearly responsible, is the Late, Great George Harrison who penned this timeless commentary on government greed while still a Beatle in 1966.  The cadence and images of the mailing are timed to fit the rhythm and melody of that George Harrison composition.  Thank you, Mr. Harrison!"

The magazine’s Publisher Paul Plawin said, "Winning a Reed Award is considered to be one of the most prestigious honors in the business of politics and Campaigns & Elections congratulates the finalists and winners."

The FlashReport adds its congrats to Wainio, Sills and Sjoberg!  Read of all of Sill’s SD Rostra entry on the win.

More Movement in AD 74… Following my article last Monday on Sherry Hodges running for Martin Garrick’s term-limited Assembly seat next year, some additional cards were played very quickly.  First Oceanside Councilmember Jerry Kern made contact with me:

"I have been approached by some prominent business interests here in North County asking me to consider running for the 74th AD IF Oceanside is included in the redrawn lines for the District," said Kern.  "I did endorse Sherry Hodges several weeks ago well before I was approached by these potential backers.  As for right now I am weighing my options and waiting to see how the district is drawn."

Also, Escondido Councilmember Marie Waldron’s confirmation to me for the FlashReport that she was forming an exploratory effort to weigh a run was picked up by the North County Times.

Schwarzenegger says he’s returning to acting… Yes — and it is yet to be determined if California is more better off than Hollywood is worse off.  Or something like that. I know, some have asked if he ever left. Acting.
