I just spoke with Andy Roth with the Club for Growth – and am excited to share some great news with FlashReport readers — one of the most liberal Republicans in Congress, Michigan’s Joe Schwarz (pictured to the right) has had his clocked cleaned in today’s primary, and was defeated by strong conservative former State Legislator Tim Walberg. Walberg was supported by conservative groups and blog sites from around the country and was able to successful trounce Schwarz. Schwarz was a leading opponent of making permanent the President’s tax cuts, and much more. You can read more about that here.
A big FR thank you goes out to our readers — your generosity made a difference. Readers of the FR donated thousands of dollars to the Club for Growth independent expenditure against Schwarz. Our efforts along with the efforts of scores of other conservative websites around America made a big difference!

And, of course, let us hope that this sends a chilling message to the liberal-moderate Republicans in Congress that we expect GOP Members of Congress to advance the principles outlined in the GOP Platform, and if they are going to ally themselves with Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats, then 
we are going to self-police each of them, taking them out in their primaries.

P.S. For those following other national races — moderate Democrat Senator Joe Lieberman lost his primary to a liberal, and is vowing to run in November as an independent, and nutty Democrat Cynthia McKinney lost her Democrat primary as well.

Thanks for bringing this race to our attention Jon. It is good to see that in some cases it is still worth it to fight the good fight. Unfortunately I think we need to take out quite a few more RINO incumbents before we can expect to see some real change in DC. Congrats to Mr. Walberg!

Excellent commentary, Jon, it gives optimism that we can replace the bad apples that were taken into the big tent and became our officials. It’s a shame that the establishment furnished such lackluster Congresscritters who use our party resources (including fundraisers held by the President) to vote against our convictions in solid GOP seats.
I must challenge the comment that “moderate Joe Lieberman” was swapped by liberal Lamont. It’s actually quite surprising that we have accepted this term for him– considering our enmity for Dianne Feinstein’s liberal voting record to be deemed “moderate.”
For one, the ACU ranked Lieberman as being even more liberal than Feinstein– a whopping 8% pro-liberty in 2005, and a 0% in 2004’s election year. Feinstein and Boxer scored the same 12% and 4% over the last two respective years. Lieberman’s only “moderate” stripe would come in supporting the war in Iraq, which is not even a conservative position, considering that the desert is lacking the institutions to recreate a democracy. Definitely not a conservative move, considering the literature that gave the movement its title— the Roots of American Order…
Perhaps he gets the moderate label because of his demeanor, akin to a baby seal in a sea of shrill Senators– he’s such a nice-looking guy, he nearly squeaked by as the Democrat nominee for Vice-President, standing on stage with Al Gore, six years ago.
The GOP had a sure chance to nominate somebody in this race that is proud to be conservative and come out in bold stripes, not pale pastels (a Reagan quote), and even possibly win it by showing how right and unapolegetic our viewpoints are. Instead, it’s a three-way race to be the most senatorial among three liberals– and I quite frankly don’t care who turns up and wins it…
