Sunday San Diego…Red County SD, Nehring News, more

Red County/San Diego Debuts… As Matt Cunningham posted Thursday, San Diego in now the third GOP county in the state with a Red County blogsite.  I am honored to join a "blogpen" including some great folks like Congressman Brian Bilbray, Senator Mark Wyland, Assemblyman Martin Garrick, Jennifer Jacobs of Coronado Communications, John Nienstedt of Competitive Edge Research & Communication, Encinitas Councilman Jerome Stocks and Jimmy Valentine, the producer of the Roger Hedgecock radio show.  A few other anonymous "pseudonymed" bloggers as well (bawwwk, bawk, bawk, bawk).

A mutual synergy exists in both the FlashReport and Red County providing links to the news and offering right-leaning perspective, as well as linking to each other.  The current Red County sites in Orange County, Riverside and SD are able to offer some narrowed, localized news and comment.  One of the masterminds (if not the mastermind) behind Red County is Cunningham, also an OC blogger for the FlashReport.  FR Publisher Jon Fleischman also pens for Red County/OC Blog, and rumor has it that he will join the Red County team in San Diego…an honorary San Diegan, perhaps.

The North County Times has already reported on the Red County SD effort, with Brad Fikes noting it in his Silicon Beach column on Friday, then posting it on his own southwest left coast blog on Saturday.  Fikes even took the time to post a message on Red County:

A very impressive debut! Plenty of info and links, updated diligently, with an extremely clean and well organized layout. Welcome to the blogosphere.

Thanks Brad, and thanks to Matt Cunningham for making Red County a reality in San Diego.

Nehring News… Following Ron Nehring’s victory a week ago today as head of the California Republican Party (a race in which he was forced to run against and debate himself), the following news of note on the new chairman:

GOP looks to new champion, SacBee – Already noted in the FR on Thursday, but worth the read if you missed it.

Ron Nehring looks to take local success statewide, North County Times – Ditto

King Ron I, Red County/OC Blog – Speaking of Red County, Nehring’s fellow CRP officer Keith Carlson delivers this piece.

Hunter on Iraq Resolution… He may no longer be chair of Armed Services, but he is still the ranking member on the committee…and he is running for president.  His excerpted statement:

Most importantly, Madam Speaker, our troops are in the field already on this plan that is now being retroactively disavowed by the Democratic leadership. You know, it was in June, I think it was 21:30 hours, June 6, 1944, when the first aircraft of the pathfinder companies went out in front of the 82nd Airborne on Normandy and they were followed by hundreds of airplanes of American paratroopers. The 82nd Airborne had the full support and prayers of the United States Congress. Today, you have an 82nd Airborne second brigade, now operating under this plan in Baghdad; already there in Baghdad. Now is this going to be the day, I would ask my colleagues, when some trooper from the 82nd Airborne writes on the concrete wall next to his position in Baghdad: this is where I stood when the United States House of Representatives, led by the Democrat leadership, rejected my mission? I hope that doesn’t happen, Madam Speaker. Vote no on this resolution.

Note Duncan uses the term "Democrat" without the "ic."  I guess he cares nary a wink.

Video of Congressman Hunter’s remarks is available here.

Have a great rest-of-the-holiday weekend…and have a great week!
