Today’s Commentary: Lowery: Why Recall Anthony Adams?

Yesterday I blogged that I heard Lee Lowery, who is a Co-Chairman of the Committee to Recall Adams, on the John and Ken Show on KFI Radio.  I reached out to Lee, whom I have known for a very long time — he is a prominent businessman, and hardly a "radical" — to ask him to make his case for a recall to our readers.  He penned this piece last night, and sent it over early this morning…

Why Recall Anthony Adams?
By Lee Lowery

As our legal team finishes the final paperwork to initiate the formal recall campaign of Assemblyman Anthony Adams, many Republican friends and elected officials up and down the state are asking me why would I begin an earnest recall campaign against a fellow Republican? There are many good answers to this question, but my answer is simply enough is enough. No longer am I going to stand by and watch our Party give up one of the last winning issues we have in advocating lower taxes for the people of California. As Republicans, we can disagree on many issues. Not every Republican sees eye to eye on abortion, gay marriage, and certain environmental issues. But as Republicans, if we can’t agree on the principal that lower taxes are a cornerstone to a successful economy, our Party is doomed to failure.

The RINO’s in question do have supporters in the talk radio media. Check out Rick Amato at amatotalk.com. He is an unabashed supporter of Able Maldonado and Anthony Adams

The amazing thing I find about this Republican vs. Republican argument is that, after literally years and years of budget battles in which the Democrats have consistantly fought to increase taxes and Republicans have valiently fought to decrease spending, once this most current budget gets approved and the Democrats have finally finagled their way into the largest tax increase ever, who do the Republicans blame for these increasing taxes? Not the Democrats. Seventy-something Democrats voted for this budget, and who’s heads go onto the sticks? Not the Democrats.

If the Democrats aren’t ever held accountable for their relentless efforts to increase taxes, why would they ever stop?

Seriously, that’s a pretty sweet deal for them: Democrats increase taxes and the Republicans respond by blaming themselves and eating their young.

Those who lament that the Republican party “will fade to irrelevance” if we continue to “eat[] our own” instead of “fighting our REAL ENEMIES” totally miss the point.

The Republican party has been relegated to the role of opposition by its proportion in state representation. Fortunately, California requires a super majority to pass tax increases. This fact keeps the Republican party from total irrelevance. Unfortunately, when people like Adams betray their oath to the people who put them in office and vote to raise taxes, they take away the limited clout of the Republican party. It is they who lead us to irrelevance.

To assert that Adams is otherwise a good conservative and should be forgiven this lapse is equivalent to stating that aside from his indiscretion at West Point, Benedict Arnold was an excellent patriot and general of the Revolution.

If you see the removal of Anthony Adams as diminishing the party, what is your view of the party? Do we not stand for anything?

Perhaps it is time to consider the Libertarian Party. At least they believe in principles. I hope they run someone to fill Adams post.
