Garamendi looks for new Running mate? Robo call use Governor to attack McClintock

I’ve got two calls now from some great GOP women activists on the west side of Los Angeles. They are upset about a robo call being done by some one supporting Garamendi. I heard it and it goes like this (I tried my best to get it all down)

Tis is Shirley Freeman and I’m a lifelong Republican. I’m a bit confused about the race for Lieutenant Governor. Today I read in the paper that Governor Schwarzenegger said that Tom McClintock was totally wrong and that if we went went with his way of thinking, then we will never rebuild California.

It goes on to urge a vote for Garamendi. As Angelides tanks Garamendi looks for another running mate. See here how a close loss on the down ticket hurts the Gov.

BTW there are two Shirley Freeman’s registered as Republicans, don’t know if they are part of it or not.

I’m sure the Governor will denouce this campaignb dirty trick and let every one know that he truly is supporting McClintock.… Read More

Who Said the Tribes Only Support Democrats?

Brandon Powers (here and here) and Jon Fleischman (here) previously posted about the "Team 2006" Sovereign Nations PACand the significant IEs the combined tribal effort is pursuing. Despite Saturday’s SDUT article depicting some sort of falling out between the tribes making up the new PAC, and its impact on Tony Strickland — with one of the tribes switching its funding to John Chiang apparently (although Tony is still benefiting hugely)— a load of other IE dollars are being spent.

Here’s the updated 24-hour list of the most significant late IEs by Team 2006:

Republicans: Guy Houston – AD 15 – $224,000 Audra Strickland – AD 37 – $121,000 Shirley Horton – AD 78 – $281,000… Read More

Arnold in Irvine: The Photos

I took some photos on my trusty Motorola RZR phone at the Irvine V6 Headquaters earlier during the Governor’s GOTV visit. Pardon some of the poor quality, it is a phone camera, after all…

Lot of television cameras were on hand to listen to the Governor this morning.

Councilwoman Christina Shea welcomes the Governor to Irvine!

Full Circle

Sunday in San Bernardino County was, appropriately, a day of reflection. It started with the McTour bus visiting the Upland GOP Headquarters where Sen. Tom McClintock (pictured right) and Secretary of State Bruce McPherson thanked the volunteers who are helping make 60,000 calls in the county’s final push to get out the vote.

Then there was the memorial service in Devore for the five U.S. Forest Service firefighters who were killed by the Esperanza Fire last week. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger led a moving tribute, and later privately presented flags to the families of the fallen firemen. In the audience were thousands of firefighters, officials from throughout the region and other mourners paying their respects.

Later, back at the Headquarters, a few of us were reviewing some internal polling from the week, including one in which we tested the Governor’s county numbers. He was at 54 percent to Phil Angelides’ 28%. Meanwhile, Schwarzenegger’s statewide numbers were showing him up 49% to 32% and climbing. The new… Read More

WSJ’s Best of the Web on the CA Campaigns

From the WSJ’s Best of the Web daily e-mail: Republicans’ Golden State

Democrats are supposed to do well in tomorrow’s election, but the New York Times reports from Los Angeles that one bright spot for the GOP is likely to be California, a state John Kerry carried by almost 10% of the vote:

Of the seven statewide offices up for grabs, two are all but certain to go to Republicans, and three are in a statistical tie, according to a Field Poll released Thursday. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger leads his Democratic challenger by roughly 16 points, and the Republican candidate for state insurance commissioner has nearly a 10-point lead. The race for lieutenant governor is a dead heat,Read More

Poizner’s on the Move

I checked in earlier with Steve Poizner as he is doing his campaigning around the state. Our next Insurance Commissioner had this report:

3. Interviewed with the AP and the New York Times

4. visited with parent leaders of after school athletic programs in the central valley

5. called into radio talk shows in LA, Fresno, and San Diego

Lots of radio interviews set for the next couple of days.

Steve”

CRP Vice Chairman reports from 11th CD

The following report is filed ‘from the field’ by California Republican Party Vice Chairman Ron Nehring: I’m sending this report from the parking lot outside the packed Victory headquarters in Pleasanton in Alameda County, heart of the battle for control of Congress as the campaign of Congressman Pombo takes on the forces of liberalism for control of the 11th congressional district. One of tonight’s phoners is Jill Buck, Republican nominee for State Assembly and a real superstar running an aggressive campaign in a district that’s challenging for any Republican. Earlier in the day I visited the Stockton Victory headquarters where Central Valley volunteers were working to turn out voters on the other side of the hill. From there it was to Mountain View where Santa Clara Chairman Keen Butcher was helping to make calls pushing the entireRead More

Democrats Throw Everything, AND the Kitchen Sink at Pombo

Many people will look at the 11th Congressional district and see a 6% Republican registration edge and assume the safety of this seat for the GOP and House Resources Chairman Richard Pombo of Tracy. What lies underneath this election year however is a strange dynamic that has made this one of the most heated races in the nation.

Due to the massive infusion of 527 group contributions (on one day the Defenders of Wildlife reported spending over $100,000 just for identification calls) that have been going on the airwaves, in the mailboxes and on the ground, this race is now ground zero in the battle for the House of Representatives.

All polling released so far has put this race as essentially even and has now drawn the full force of both the DCCC and NRCC. This race will now come down to turnout and ground game. While the Pombo team is well known for its attention to ground and ability to turn out the vote, McNerney is counting on bussing in an army from Berkeley, Oakland, Palo Alto and even from as far away as… Read More
