Weekend Update from San Diego

In his post below, Jon noted Warren and Annette being refused entrance to this morning’s San Diego kick-off of Arnold’s bus tour.  Nothing speaks to the "power couple’s" utter frustration like this AP photo and accompanying caption, posted at www.signonsandiego.com:

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s spokesman Darrel
Ng, right, tells actor Warren Beatty, center, and his
wife, actress Annette Bening, left, that they may not
enter a rally held by the governor at Montgomery
Field to drum up last-minute support for a group
of statewide ballot measures.

The moral of the story:  If you want to be governor, you first have to run.

As for other news from SD, nothing says it as well as the missive just received from the County GOP, so I won’t try:

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger kicked off his Reform to Rebuild Bus Tour Saturday morning before a crowd of more than 500 enthusiastic supporters at Montgomery Field in San Diego.  Radio talk show host Roger Hedgecock and Chairman Ron Nehring warmed up the crowd before the Governor arrived to remind San Diegans of the need to reform California state government.  The 2003 recall, the Governor reminded us, recalled only Gray Davis, but left a broken system in place.  Washed up actor Warren Beatty showed up to provide counterpoint to the Governor, but no one paid much attention to him besides a few people from the press.  Photos from the event have been posted to www.joinarnold.com

Republican Precinct Representatives fanned out across San Diego County this morning to begin the final push to maximize Republican voter turnout on November 8th.  As this report is being written volunteers are meeting at Republican headquarters for a post-walk BBQ.  Republican Precinct Representatives are critical to maximizing Republican voter turnout in individual precincts.

Republican Mayoral candidate Jerry Sanders maintains his lead over liberal, in-over-her-head surf shop owner Donna Frye despite a substantial last minute "independent" expenditure campaign from Washington DC labor unions.  (Frye is about as "independent" from labor unions as Darth Vader is from Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars movies).  The key to victory in this election, as with the statewide propositions, is turnout.

Mailings informing San Diego Republicans of their candidates for San Diego mayor and city council continue to land across the city, with special emphasis in council districts 2 (Kevin Faulconer) and 8 (Luis Acle).  Both candidates have an excellent shot on Tuesday, and are needed to back up Republican reform plans on the City Council while making sure Donna Frye’s $1 billion tax increase never sees the light of day.

San Diego Republicans interested in walking their precinct or volunteering at Republican headquarters please phone 858-450-4600.  Your effort is critical to delivering a big Republican victory on Tuesday!

ELECTION NIGHT VICTORY CELEBRATION: San Diego Republicans will gather in the Versailles Room at the Westgate Hotel beginning at 8:00 PM on Tuesday evening, November 8th.  Join us as we celebrate a new day for San Diego, and victory for reforming California!

If Warren Beatty isn’t enough Hollywood for you in one day, then I will add this: Good Night, and Good Luck.
