Assemblyman Curt Hagman

Now Is The Time To Stand Up for 2nd Amendment

Over the Fourth of July one could not help think of the brave few men who took on the greatest empire on the Earth in order to be free. It is no coincidence that after gaining independence the Founders went about guaranteeing God given rights from a potentially tyrannical new government.

The Second Amendment and the right to bear arms guaranteed the First amendment and all others.

Recently over the last couple years and just last month the United State Supreme Court has struck down laws that infringed on that right.
Unfortunately, the California State Legislature hasn’t gotten the message about protecting our freedoms.

Below are three bills that passed the State Assembly (over my objections in committee and on the floor). These bills are now awaiting action in the State Senate. While the Senate is on a break, find your State Senator and tell them to vote for freedom and against these three bills.

AB1934 seeks to punish citizens for engaging in the legal act of openly carrying an unloaded handgun.  If California had a reasonable concealed carry law that was consistent and fair there would be no need for citizens to carry a gun in open.

AB2223 seeks to outlaw the use of lead shot when shooting or hunting in state-run wildlife management areas.  Anti-hunting groups want to make it harder to hunt and this bill would do it.

AB1810 seeks to establish a Canadian style registration system, similar to the one currently in place for handguns, for all newly-acquired long guns.  Under AB1810 require the Attorney General to keep the make, model and serial number of the firearm as well as the identifying information of the purchaser on file. If only the British had such a list!

This bill would increase state cost and do nothing to keep guns out of the hands of real criminals.

Now is the time to stand for freedom. Remember what our Founders fought for.

The communists in Sacramento are slowly but surely bringing citizens in line with their “pacification” of the populace goals.

Pacification was the goal concerning the American Indians from first day of New World contact.

Your future looks grim….you will have Indian-style health care and most likely live in government housing in the desert waiting for your weekly ration from “the man”.

It is hard to understand what the promoters of these bills are thinking, especially with AB1810. Do they want a divisive, high profile fight in California, in which many Democrats and independents will be squarely on the side of gun owners, the NRA, and every other civil (with a small “c”) rights organizations?

Jst maybe an attack on the 2nd Amendment this blatant will finally wake the public up to the the stark contrast between the socialist nanny state extremists (I think that they very closely fit the classic definition of fascists) and those that recognize that the republic thrives on liberty and opportunity, income confiscation and redistribution.

Keep it up Democrats! You are just drawing the electoral battle lines… California shifted leftwards back in the 70s… Don’t think that it won’t shift rightwards in the future… Out of control spending, pandering to government unions, sheltering illegal aliens, and gun control laws that would make Stalin proud will wake the sleeping giant…

    Curt,

Thank you for your support of the 2nd Amendment in California. We gunnies appreciate you stepping up to the bar and driving AB1663 to try to repeal AB962.

I would hope your fellow Republican seatmates would be as helpful as you’ve tried to be – many talk a good gunrights game, and vote No on band gun bills – but they don’t even try to carry achievable pro-gun bills.

Many pro-gun bills, if done in incremental small chunks, are indeed passable; we can synthesize larger moves from initial “baby steps”: a perfect example is Sen. Bob Dutton’s work on SB269, getting exemptions for single-shot pistols, which has been useful on a number of fronts in helping Californians acquire the handguns of their choice.

    Keep up the good work!

OMG. A politician with common sense?
I’m finally impressed with someone in our government. I’ve never said that before…
Why don’t the others realize that responsible citizens do not commit crimes and the right to bear firearms are the sole reason criminals and gangs do not rule the roost?
If all the wasted money spent on these “do nothing” bills was detoured to an actual good cause, The police dept would have NO layoffs.
It’s nice to know at least one person in power has a clue.
    Thank You.
    Sincerely, James Smith,
    A concerned citizen.

Assemblyman, as what I told Sen.Runner on his facebook page, if you are fed up of Democrats rejecting sensible legislation on 2nd Amendment and public safety, then we will need to bring the argument to the swing districts so they could vote against the Democrats.

Vote for Democrats, get pro-criminal enablers on the public safety committees.

    Dear Curt,

I certainly appreciate the fact that you have made it a point to not only fight these outrageous attacks on our Constitutional rights but try and bring all of us together to fight for those precious rights. The current radical Socialist administration with idiots like Pelosi, Feinstein and Boxer, not to mention the head dirt bag Socialist and New World Order promoter Obama. Part of his league of idiots, Eric Holder, is one of the biggest embarrassments this country has seen in Atty. Generals.
November will be a record number of true Americans voting in November to crush this Gestapo like administration. Send these mental midget democrats back to American Government classes. These idiots have forgotton who they work for. WE THE PEOPLE. Of the people, by the people, for the people.

You mess with my guns, you mess with my freedoms, you’ii deal with me. This should be our new motto.

    Thanks Curt for your support!

For you in California. As a former Californian and a current Alaskan I can tell you this much. ANY form of control over a citizen having or using a gun is criminal. Laws that appeal to the makes sense crowd only allow these grabbers to keep it up. Gun classes make sense so let’s allow such a thing. Soon you are told which gun you can and cannot own. Oops, your already there.
